Keep an eye on drug coverage gaps

If you go 63 days or more in a row without creditable prescription drug coverage after you first become eligible, you may owe a Part D late enrollment penalty when you do sign up.

Creditable coverage is drug coverage that is expected to pay, on average, at least as much as Medicare's standard prescription drug coverage.

Medicare basics

Questions we hear every day

What is the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Original Medicare is Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance), run by the federal government. Medicare Advantage, also called Part C, is offered by Medicare-approved private companies and bundles Part A and Part B coverage, usually with drug coverage and sometimes extra benefits like vision, dental or hearing.

What does Part D cover?

Part D helps pay for prescription drugs. You can add a standalone Part D plan to Original Medicare, and many Medicare Advantage plans already include drug coverage.

What is Medigap?

Medigap, or Medicare Supplement Insurance, is sold by private companies and helps pay some of the costs Original Medicare does not, such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles. It works alongside Original Medicare, not Medicare Advantage.

What is Extra Help?

Extra Help is a Medicare program that helps people with limited income and resources pay Part D premiums, deductibles and coinsurance. We can walk you through how to find out whether you qualify.

Does it cost anything to talk with you?

No. Requesting a benefits review and speaking with a licensed agent is free, and you are never under any obligation to enroll.
